The Fruit of the Spirit - Temperance
broken_skai wrote in lovefor_jesus
The ninth and final revelation of the Fruit of the Spirit is temperance. Galatians 5 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Temperance is self-control. Walking in communion with the Spirit of the Lord requires discipline of the flesh. For the flesh is always at odds with the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is actually the personality of the Lord that begins to manifest as He dwells in your heart by the Holy Spirit. The flesh always wars against the Spirit, because it knows that if we are obedient to the Lord it will be crucified. Recognizing and accepting Jesus Christ as your king means the dethroning of the flesh. It becomes subject to Christ when we begin to discipline ourselves bringing our carnal nature under control. Galatians 5 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.  This temperance applies to our thought life as well.... 2 Corinthians 10 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; ) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. The enemy attacks through our emotions and thought life building up strongholds in our minds and hearts. Strongholds of bitterness, unforgivness, unbelief, fear, pride, sexual lusts and fornication...but through the blood of Jesus Christ and the power of the Spirit we can overcome these things. As we seek His face in worship, He will address these areas of your life. Not all at once though....but little by little as your relationship and understanding grows. From glory to glory He changes you. He will touch, and shed light on the deep places of the heart. (Places that you probably weren't even aware of) The deepness of your heart, your spirit will begin to call and yearn for the deepness of His Spirit. Deep calling to deep. This happens when true worship begins to take place and intimate relationship begins to develop. The flesh however, will try to resist and fight you every step of the way. I admit it's a battle, one that seems impossible to win and sometimes with no end in sight. But I draw my strength from the Lord. He believed in me, in us....and I believe in Him. His Word says that all things become possible with God, and as His Spirit lives, this flesh of mine will be subject to Him. Galatians 5 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Blessings to all in Jesus' name.
