The Fruit of the Spirit - Gentleness

The fifth revelation of the fruit of the Spirit is gentleness.

2 Samuel 18
4 And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.

This was King David's command to his captains concerning his son Absalom who rebelled and forced David into a battle with him for the throne. Think of a loving, tenderhearted father's gentleness toward a child that he loves more than himself...Gentleness is patience with a touch of kindness and understanding, born out of love. You see, there is only one fruit, but it has nine revelations or parts. Each part is born out of love. The love of the Spirit of Jesus is what causes this fruit to manifest in your life. Without His love, it dies.

Psalm 18
35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.

It can be difficult to be patient with someone when they do things that don't make any sense to you. Even more so when you have a preconceived idea about them and you really don't care enough to try and understand. But with gentleness (patience, with a touch of kindness and understanding, born out of love) I think people are more willing to open up... more willing to listen... more willing to consider when they see that your honestly trying to understand where they are coming from; as opposed to someone being forceful, or beating others over the head with a bible from an ivory tower. The Holy Spirit is loving and gentle, never forceful....  The conviction and the changing of one's heart is not our job, but the work of the Holy Ghost. Our work lies in the sowing of the seed of His Word with His love, in accordance with His will. The Holy Ghost will take care of the rest. When we show His love to the world and not our own, people take notice. (even when it seems like no one cares) Because deep in our hearts, deep in our souls, in our spirit.... we know His love when we feel it. There is a part of us hidden and buried somewhere that recognizes His voice.... remembers His warmth. But because He loves you, He will let you choose whether to reject His love, or embrace it.

Blessings to all in His name.
